How Simsola AI grew one scoring engine into three products

As fractional product lead, I took Simsola from a single assessment API to a platform for recruiters, candidates and coaches, scoping, prototyping and shipping the work with the founder and three engineers.

The company

Simsola AI scores interview conversations. Its Assessment Service gives recruiting and executive-search teams structured, defensible evidence on their finalists, and MyCoach uses the same engine for scenario-based leadership practice.

The challenge

The engine worked. The problem was everything around it. Scores lived in an app recruiters had to leave their ATS to reach, candidates had no way in unless they already had a transcript, and new MyCoach users weren't sure how to finish their first simulation.

What I did

  1. Put scores inside the ATS

I wrote the PRDs for four recruiting-platform integrations: ClockWork, Ezekia, Greenhouse and Ashby. Each one detects a finished interview, scores it and writes a structured note back to the candidate's profile, with a polling fallback, deduplication and an honest "insufficient data" note instead of a misleading score. I also designed the self-serve Integrations page.

  2. Opened a direct path for candidates

Candidate Prep lets job seekers upload a real interview privately and get a skill-by-skill improvement report. The transcript is the constraint, not the value, so a candidate with no recording can rehearse live in MyCoach, and a gap in their report opens a practice session set to that role and skill. Only session and role context cross between the apps, never transcripts or scores.

  3. Guided the first simulation

I designed a six-step tour that walks new MyCoach users through the scenario, coach prep, the live conversation and the debrief. It remembers progress, so someone who leaves halfway sees "Resume tour" instead of starting over.

  4. Turned sign-ups into first reports

I built the lifecycle email strategy for businesses and candidates, with sequences triggered by PostHog product events. I wrote the instrumentation tickets, the copy and the workflows, then tested the whole flow end to end on staging before launch.

  5. Repositioned the website

Sourcing, scheduling and note-taking are already automated. The final hiring call isn't. I reframed the site around that last mile and added a product picker that routes every demo request to the right form.
